Welcome to our blog!
This page has been designed to help students revising for the OCR AS English Literature exam from Summer 2012 onwards.
The page has been created by Mrs Charlotte Cornell, Head of Sixth Form at The King’s School, Canterbury and her 2012 class (who shared the writing of the revision notes). Hopefully, this will help those who are looking to revise Yeats and his poems in advance of this summer’s AS exam. It may also be useful for those writing essays on Yeats and his work for other exams.
You can access notes on each poem set by OCR for the exam using the ‘pages’ tabs. There are also links to other useful websites, lists of quotations that may come in handy and polls…
Comments and your own thoughts on the poems are most welcome.
Enjoy!
Hey! I think this site is brilliant, but it’s a shame that you haven’t got all of them on there yet – For example my friends and I are currently analysing the Cat and the Moon and notes on that could have been useful as well 🙂
Otherwise I think this is such a great idea, and a great site and I am grateful for you producing this for students like us! I’ve shown this to my teacher, and we think it is wonderful for analysis and a lot of effort has obviously gone into it
🙂 Thank you very much

Thank you Hannah.
We are aiming to get an analysis of all of the poems up there by the beginning of the Easter holidays!
Mrs Cornell and her team of students.
Thank you for taking the time and trouble to share your work, there’s lots of valuable analysis here. As I understand it ‘The Circus Animals’ Desertion’ is not one of the named poems in the OCR selection. Or have I missed something?
Dear Tom,
You are correct: ‘The Circus’ Animals Desertion’ is not one of the OCR poems this year – consider it an extra treat!
Charlotte Cornell
A fantastic resource – what an industrious bunch you all are! My students will love this!
Michael Donkor
Thank you Michael!
Very helpful:) thankyouuu
Hi, thank you very much for this work it is very useful- I was wondering whether there would be any analysis of ‘The Fisherman’ put onto this site?
Notes on ‘The Fisherman’ were put online today. Enjoy.
Thank you so much for your online contributions! I am grateful for the new insights the site has given to Yeats’ poems and this is perfect for my revision- you’ve made my Easter!
Glad the blog has been of use. Please do leave you own comments on poems to help inspire others and provoke useful discussion.
This is excellent. Thank you.
I’m glad it has been useful!
This website is fabulous, I can’t describe how much it has helped me considering the lack of resources since we are the first year to sit this exam. Thankyou all so much!
Not a problem; please do leave your own thoughts and comments on pages to help inspire others / provoke argument…
Hi is there a Turn of the Screw one? Btw this website is a lifesaver and is brilliant!
No blog on ‘The Turn of the Screw’ this year (sorry!), but I might persuade a class to help me make one next year…
Hi, this is fantastic site, has been really useful for my revision. May I suggest to join http://peripeteia.webs.com/ it is a website that Neil Bowen, head of English at Wells Cathedral School set up to try a bridge the gap between A-Level and University with online seminars from top lecturers. Is extremely useful for those students that are thinking about doing English at University but also for the exams in the summer. Also you should get you students to join the facebook page http://www.facebook.com/groups/126085967405599/. Thank you again for this great site.

Thank you so much for all this work. I have been struggling so much with Yeats as our teacher is very interested in the history and does too little on analysis meaning we’ve only just finished the course!! Also, essay questions are so helpful, couldn’t find any decent ones anywhere else 🙂 x
OMG SAME HERE!
nationalism this, reformation that.
‘Ehem, Sir, with all due respect with have an exam next week on this!!’
Ours is like…. Hector from the History Boys! Useful but beside the point.
Thanks so much for this, great stuff. Good luck to everyone on Wednesday!
Just wanted to say thank you so much for these notes, they have helped a lot for revision.
So nervous for the exam on Wednesday :O
Also, just wanted to ask if you knew any grade boundaries for this exam. Teachers at my school told us they didn’t really know as it was a new spec.
Thanks!
Inspired.
Whoever this Harry Savill chap is deserves a medal. My class has struggled to get through all the material and to read the Wild Swans At Coole notes was beyond helpful.
Sincerely,
Thanks
(P.S – Polls are looking interesting the day before the exam, perhaps a poll on themes for next years candidates?)
Thank you so much!
this has been amazingly useful for myself, the rest of my lit class, my lit teacher and the other classes in our year, thankyou so much!! I’ll pass it on to the students of next year too 🙂
This is far and away the best Yeats resource I have come across. Thanks so much for putting so much time, thought and effort into it. I will definitely be showing my students this page.

I am also struggling with prose my school is doing The Secret Agent by Joseph conrad
Glad to help!
Do you perhaps happen to know which poem was on in jan 2013?
This is really helpful 🙂
Does anyone know what the question was for Broken Dreams in the January 2013 paper?
Ann
